  8.      OWL Basic Bookkeeping is an easy-to-use program that maintains
  9.      complete and accurate accounting of income and expenses.  In
  10.      creating Basic Bookkeeping, our objective was to produce a
  11.      program that was intuitive and required no prior knowledge of
  12.      accounting.  Basic Bookkeeping uses the "single entry"
  13.      bookkeeping method that is recommended by the IRS.  This
  14.      accounting method is easy to use and is equally suited for
  15.      small businesses and individuals.

  17.      With Basic Bookkeeping, you can produce a variety of expense,
  18.      income, profit and general ledger reports. You can define up
  19.      to 1000 different expense accounts to fully categorize your
  20.      expenses for tax purposes.
  21.      
  22.      Version 4 employs the concept of folders where each folder
  23.      contains income and expense data that may be reported either
  24.      separately or in combination.  Thus, Basic Bookkeeping may be
  25.      used for multiple businesses, multiple divisions within a
  26.      single business or for both business and personal accounting.

  28.      An import option within Basic Bookkeeping links the program to
  29.      our invoicing and sales management program (OASIS) allowing
  30.      direct transfer of income data from OASIS into Basic
  31.      Bookkeeping.  OASIS provides complete tracking of sales,
  32.      customers and receivables.  Using a combination of OASIS and
  33.      Basic Bookkeeping provides up to the minute visibility of your
  34.      bottom line.

  36. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  37.      
  38.      - Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Windows 95.
  39.      - A hard disk with approximately 1.5 Megabytes of available
  40.        space
  41.      - 4 Megabytes of memory.

  43. UPGRADING FROM EARLIER VERSIONS (Versions 1 through 3 for DOS)
  44.      
  45.      Complete instructions for upgrading your data files from Basic
  46.      Bookkeeping Versions 1 through 3 are contained in  the  user's
  47.      guide.  When installing Basic Bookkeeping for Windows, DO  NOT
  48.      install  it  in the same directory where your DOS  version  of
  49.      Basic Bookkeeping is installed.

  51. INSTALLATION
  52.      
  53.      To  install OWL Basis Bookkeeping for Windows, use the Program
  54.      Manager to run BBKW45.EXE.  For example, if you are installing
  55.      from drive A:
  56.      
  57.      1.   From  the  Program Manager File menu or Windows 95  Start
  58.           menu, choose Run.
  59.      2.   In the Run dialog box, type "A:BBKW45" and choose OK.
  60.      
  61.      The setup program offers the following installation options:
  62.      
  63.      1.   Installation Directory?  If you already have a copy of BBK 
  64.           for Windows on your hard disk, then choose the directory 
  65.           where it is presently installed.  The default is C:\OWL_BUS.
  66.      2.   Backup  Replaced Files?:  Select "Yes" if you would like 
  67.           the setup program to make backup copies of all files that 
  68.           are replaced during the installation.
  69.      3.   Full or Upgrade Installation?  If you are installing to the 
  70.           same drive and directory where BBK for Windows was previously 
  71.           installed then choose the Upgrade Installation option.  This 
  72.           will prevent your existing BBK data files from being 
  73.           overwritten.

  75.      The  setup program creates a program group named "OWL Business
  76.      Apps"  with  icons for Basic Bookkeeping for  Windows  (BBK  -
  77.      WIN), the Basic Bookkeeping User's Guide (BBK - User's Guide),
  78.      the  Basic Bookkeeping Order Form (BBK - Order Form) and Basic
  79.      Bookkeeping README (BBK - README).

  81. RUNNING THE PROGRAM

  83.      To  run the OWL Basic Bookkeeping for windows click on the 
  84.      BBK - WIN icon.
  85.      
  86.      The  data  files shipped with the program contain sample  data
  87.      which is provided to help you become familiar with the various
  88.      options  and  capabilities of the program.   The  sample  data
  89.      covers calendar year 1995.  The Getting Started section of the
  90.      User's   Guide  contains  a  step-by-step  guide  to   getting
  91.      acquainted with Basic Bookkeeping.
